The Gloucester Unitarian Universalist Church is completely self-governing, as are all Unitarian Universalist congregations. This tradition, known as Congregational Polity, dates back to 1648, and establishes the independence of each congregation to manage its own affairs and to call its own minister. Following a comprehensive revision of our bylaws approved by congregational vote in September of 2017, our church governance structure is as follows:

 Board of Trustees 2024

Our church is governed by our bylaws, and by a Board of Trustees. The Board meets monthly to address church policy issues.

President: Pat Johnson

At-Large: Jay McLauchlan, Jim Seavey, Marylou Bassani

Ex-Officio: Reverend Janet Parsons

2024 Church Officers

Finance Chair: Roger Garberg

Treasurer: Jeff Henderson

Clerk: Gail Campbell

Moderator: JoeAnn Hart

Church Committees and Teams
The Gloucester Unitarian Universalist Church has active committees that support the Board in governing the church: Building and Grounds; Finance; and Nominating. We also have active Ministry Teams, including Care, Membership, Music and Liturgy, Religious Exploration, and Social Justice. Most committees and teams meet monthly, and welcome new members. Interested people are encouraged to contact the committee or team chair or a member of the Nominating Committee.
Task Forces
From time to time the Board of Trustees creates Task Forces to focus on a particular time-limited project. Recent examples include a by-laws task force and Stewardship Team.
